The Nikon D700

After much deliberating, weighing the pros and cons, and praying, I ordered the Nikon D700 last week.

Actually, my husband pressed the 'Order Now' button, because I just sat there and stared at it for 10 minutes. But those are just details... :)

It arrived at my parents house last night, but it was too late after religious ed classes to pick it up. I know, I couldn't believe I didn't race right over there, but I was too tired and it was nighttime; not ideal lighting for photos.

Then, I had a slight case of the stomach bug hit me in the middle of the night and carry on into today. I got a late start today, and finally, around noon, headed to pick up my very important package.

The mail delivery at the apartment complex is a little too lax for such an important package; that's why it was delivered to my parent's house. At noon, I tore into the big box that sat inside the front door, and saw my new love - the Nikon D700. It was beautiful, solid, professional, and inviting. Despite an early trip-up in trying to attach the lens [hey - it is different than the Sony! No worries, I figured it out after a minute or five!], I immediately charged up the battery, slipped in a memory card, and powered it on.

Go figure that the day I get my new camera, we have torrential downpours, thunder, and even hail in Minnesota. I was only able to test the camera out inside, but that's ok. I had time to read/skim the manual.

It's interesting learning a new camera brand when you're using to another's set up. It won't be much of learning curve, because all of the important functions are easy to find. This Nikon has all of the important features you use frequently in buttons that are easy to spot and use. The only thing that is tripping me up so far is that on my Sony, the playback button to view an image is in the bottom left corner on the back of the camera. On the Nikon, that same placement on the camera has an OK button, which does not bring up your images. The playback button is on the top-left of the back. Give me another day or two and it'll become second nature.

I am so excited! Can you tell?

The rain we've been having and will continue to have for a few more days has melted almost all the snow in our city! I can't even believe it! That means that soon, spring will fully be upon us and that will bring a whole new array of photographic opportunities.

I feel like great things are ahead!

Thanks to those of you who shared in my joy about this upcoming union! After hours and hours of camera research, I am relieved to have the camera in my hands and now, all that's ahead is playing, shooting, learning, and loving!

Enjoy the ride,

Laura
