Heartbroken for Haiti

Even though it's been over a week since the earthquake in Haiti, they still desperately need help and prayers. It is absolutely heart-wrenching to see the devastation they experienced.

God Bless Haiti. If you haven't already donated, I ask any and all of you to examine your own lives very closely. Like many of us, you might feel like your finances are tight right now. People are hurting all over the world; even in our own towns and families maybe. But in reality, we are so fortunate. We have food. We have water. We have shoes. We have personal safety.

If you look deeply into your finances, I think that each of us could find one area where we could cut back just a little in order to donate to those who need it SO much more than we do. For me, it would be my pop habit. Or going to one movie in the theater. If everyone gave just 10 dollars, even just one time, so much good would be done.

The world has really come together in the wake of the earthquake; I heard that there has been almost 30 million dollars raised simply through the "Text Haiti to 90999 to donate $10" campaign. That is in addition to personal donations to the hundreds of charities that are out there. Then there are church donations and then government donations. The response has been amazing. The people of Haiti are so thankful.

But.

There is still such a need. Looking at the photos of the thousands of people waiting in line for water, I was overcome by what it would feel like to be there. To be at the back of the line and to worry that maybe they'll run out before you get to the front. To be trampled by people who think they are more thirsty or hungry than you, and who might be stronger and more powerful and can budge in front of you to get to the relief workers first. I can't even fathom what it would be like, but looking at those pictures was a bit of a wake up call... They need so much more help. 3 million people lived in that city, and while there are over a hundred thousand who are dead, there are exponentially more who are injured or who are now homeless, hungry, and worried. Terrified even. Just trying to survive.

If you can find a way to wiggle around your finances and donate, the people of Haiti would absolutely thank you. If you have already donated as much as you can spare, then thank you! Haiti needs it.
