My Perfect Version of Marlboro Man

This morning, I finished reading Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, the love story written by The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. I came across her blog while living in Hawaii, and along with thousands of other people, have visited her blog with some frequency since. I got her cookbook when it came out over a year ago, and when I heard she was publishing a book about her love story [part of which I read on her blog in 2009, when Matt and I spent a night on our respective laps tops, staying up until 3 or 4am, putzing online. Whoo, we are so fun!] I knew I wanted to read the book. I requested it from the library in our town, and it was ready for me last week.

Just like Ree's blog, the book was charming, funny and sweet. It's a fun love story, about a city girl who accidentally meets and falls in love with a country cowboy. They are opposites, but the perfect match.

I loved the book. I hope she writes a sequel.

The thing I loved most about the book, was it made me feel thankful and blessed for my 'Marlboro Man' [as Ree calls her husband on her blog and in the book.] Matt and I are opposites in a lot of ways, and yet we manage to balance each other out. We have an unlikely love story, meeting and starting our relationship as young 15 year old high school sophomores. It didn't look like we had much of a future at several different times in our rollercoaster high school/college relationship, but we made it. We fit. We are right for each other.

He's my cowboy, my knight in shining armor. My Marlboro Man, who wore combat boots instead of cowboy boots, who likes riding a bike instead of a horse, and who prefers his steak medium well instead of medium rare. He grew up in small town Minnesota in a family with much of the same values as mine has, and we both have alike views on money, possessions and life in general.

He was made for me.
