Big Changes Ahead

Did I catch your attention with the title?

If I did, great. If not, ahh well. I tried.

After much debating, researching, pro/con weighing, praying, thumb twiddling, and heel dragging, I made a very important photography equipment decision yesterday.

I've been mulling this over in my mind for weeks.

...

I am officially a Nikon shooter.

I know, Sony is sad today.

I'm still very happy with my Sony a200 and I'm keeping that sucker, probably forever. I'm keeping my kit lens and I have two old Minolta lenses that will happily reside on the a200 for years.

But.

I decided to buy a Nikon. The high ISO performance is what reeled me in [as opposed to the other contender I was considering, the Sony a850 - which still sounds like a FAB camera. Wish I could have bought both [HAHA!! I think my husband might have a heart attack if he read that]...] and made me decide in the end to pick Nikon. The camera brand war will rage until the end of time. I just ended up picking the one that felt right.

A D700 is en route to my house as I type this, and I should have it in my hands on Wednesday.

After some buying/selling of other camera bodies and across brands, I really hope and pray that I am happy here. In the Nikon world. In the full frame world.

I really think I will be.

I feel at peace.

I no longer feel like I have constantly check Amazon for new ratings or reviews on X and Y cameras, or incessantly search Google for more and more information. I'm done with that.

For now.

Yesterday, I also entered the beautiful world of B&H Photo and Video. I'm thrilled with the ease of their website, the simplicity of searching for products, and the abundance of stellar reviews for each item. While I have loved Amazon in the past, I hate to say it, but I really like B&H better. For photography anyway, since their product lines are limited to Photo/Video/Audio.

So. Once I get my new baby, I will be shooting more and posting more. I'll write about the learning curve of switching brands. Luckily for me, spring is coming, which will give me many opportunities to get out and shoot. I'm realizing that winter in Minnesota just isn't very conducive to photography. Sometimes maybe, but overall, it's tough.

Sony, no hard feelings. I'm not ridding my life of you; the a200 and I are buds, forever.

But I am welcoming into my arms a long-awaited, new-found love. Hellooo Nikon! Can't wait to meet you!

Enjoy the ride,

Laura

  1. That is awesome! I know you can hardly wait. Congrats! That's what Donna Boucher (Miz Booshay) and Pioneer Woman shoot with. Well, PW has the 700 and the D3. Can't wait to see some great pics. I have a Nikon D60 and I oh so badly want to get a D300. But, it's just a hobby for me and I'm having a hard time making the decision. Take some pics of it with your Sony to post on your blog Wednesday! I'll be waiting...
