Joining the blog world!

Hello everyone! I've been learning a little more about blogging lately, so I though that I might give it a whirl and see how I liked it. Life has been crazy and it looks like it'll stay that way for awhile, so this might be a way to keep everyone up to date on our life.

It is now July, and Hawaii is as hot as ever. We have had two rounds of visitors out here to see us, and we're preparing for my [Laura's] parents to arrive on Sunday. Having visitors gives us the opportunity to be tourists with them, and we receive a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the island we live on. Matt is up to his ears in school work as he finishes up his first of four weeks of accelerated Math and English classes through the local Hawaii Pacific University. He and several of his peers are in this 4 week class in which they will hopefully all get college credit once they pass. He still goes to his morning formations for his Marine Corps battalion, and he attends classes in uniform, but he is experiencing school and homework for the first time in 4 years. It's a transition! It's all coming back steadily though, and each week will get easier. I think it is a great opportunity for him, not only to get some key college credits in Math and Enlish, but also to jump start his 'college mindset' before he's thrown into it in the spring semester of '10. Despite the hard work now, I think it will pay off greatly in the long run.

As for me, I am staying busy getting things ready for my parents, and also with my endless list of hobbies that occupy my time. I have somewhat mastered the art of abstract painting, and I have several canvases to hang in our future home when we get back to MN. I have been deepening my understanding of photography, and have been devoting a large amount of time to taking pictures and learning how to use my editting software. My small business Those Moments Photography remains in the infantile stages, but I have hopes of getting it up and running when more time and energy, and resources are available. In the mean time, I am thoroughly enjoying experimenting with one of my favorite lifelong hobbies. I have also begun the works of my second fiction novel. Still in the beginning stages, it is slowly taking shape. My goal is to finish by the time we leave the island and head back home.

So all in all, we are living a busy life here at the Radniecki house. We will be traveling a lot and experiencing a lot of changes in the next 5 months, starting with Matt transitioning from active duty in the Marines to the inactive reserves, and us moving back to Minnesota from Hawaii. Our plans for the fall include a cross country road trip before we settle into routines of school and work, so this may be a way for us to keep our family and friends updated during that time too. So until I post again, we wish everyone a safe and fun Fourth of July, and if you could all say a little prayer for those who are continuing to fight for the freedoms we are celebrating this weekend, that would be wonderful!

Remember: God is great, and life is good.
