What To Wear To Your Photo Session: Part 2 - Laura Radniecki Images: Weekly Photography Tips

Last week, I posted Part 1 in the What To Wear To Your Photo Session series.

I mentioned ways to incorporate individuality into your family photo when you want to have everyone in the same color shirt.

In this post, I am going to encourage you to consider not having everyone wear the same color shirt for your family photo!

This intimidates people sometimes, especially if you are going to have a lot of people in your group photo. The more people you have, the more you have to make everything goes together and 'matches' right?

I understand the worry. When Matt and I had our photos taken, I was frantically digging through my closet for something to wear. I ended up at Target the day before the shoot buying two new shirts to wear for the session. I get how stressful it can be to pick your wardrobe, and the more people you have in the photo, the more stressful it can be.

But! It is not as hard as it seems!

The things to consider when choosing a wardrobe that is complimentary for a group photo are:

1. Make sure everyone is comfortable in what they are wearing.

2. Make sure everything 'goes' together. It does NOT have to all match. Mix colors, patterns, fabrics etc! Just make sure that when you lay all of the clothes out on your bed, they all look like they belong in the same photo.

3. Have fun with your accessories! If you don't want to go wild and crazy with colors and patterns in your clothing choices, have fun with accessories instead. Things like jewelry and scarves are great ways to add spice and fun to your photo without straying from a more comfortable/neutral outfit.

I want to let these next photos do the talking. They are all group photos that have a lot of variety and in turn, a ton of amazing individuality in them. They are fun, authentic, and really showcase the people in them.
Bottom line: don't be afraid of color! Experiment, test what different colors and patterns look like next to each other. You can also have some people in your group wearing neutrals like white, gray, black etc, and then others wearing pops of color.

Most of all, have fun with it!
