One of my goals for 2012 is to read 50 books.
You can read my recaps from January and February.
In March, I read 7 books, bringing my 2012 total to 16!
This month, I read:
Bitter Is The New Black by Jen Lancaster
I LOVED this book. This book is a memoir of Jen's life - how she went from a high paid, Prada carrying saleswoman to an unemployed, bitter lady. HILARIOUS. Her use of footnotes to add emphasis and humor had me rolling on the floor. She's written 6 more books since this one, and I have them on my list now too.
Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts
This is book #2 in the Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts. I read the first one in February, which was the book about the photographer. This book is about the florist of the quartet.
SO GOOD, just like the first one!
Savor the Moment by Nora Roberts
Book #3 in the Bride Quartet series, about the baker of the quartet.
I swear, the more I read, the faster these girls become like my best friends.
Happy Ever After by Nora Roberts
Book #4 in the Bride Quartet series. The last of the 4 books. This book is about the wedding planner, the one who had the idea for Vows [the wedding business].
I will not deny that I felt overwhelmingly depressed when I finished this book. I felt like my four best friends just went away. I wish Nora would write another 4 or 40 books about these four girls, but I think these four is all I'll get. I might have to reread this series again soon.
November Hunt by Jess Lourey
This is the 7th book in Jess Lourey's Murder-by-Month Mystery series and I have read every one. I waited a long time to read this book and it was totally worth the wait. I think it might be one of Jess's best, although I think the September book is tied for my favorite with this one.
As always, Mrs. Berns is my favorite part and has me in stitches every time.
Can't wait for the December novel!
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Honestly, what else can I say about this book. I probably would never had read it as it's not in line with my usual chick lit, light hearted, lovey genres. But when I started this 50 books in 2012 challenge, I asked for book recommendations and this was one that I added to this list. I didn't know was it was about and when it came and I read the inside flap, I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not. It took me about 40 or 60 pages to get into it, but once I did?
I could not put this book down.
I stayed up way late into the early morning one day reading with my little reading light so I wouldn't wake up Matt. I was sobbing and trying to be quiet so he wouldn't hear me.
This book isn't new, so some of you might have already read it. I know I'm kind of late to the party but wow. I loved it and it was very eye opening for me. Definitely a must read on anyone's list, no matter what their choice genre is.
Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin
I got this book from a friend who said they liked it. The only other book I've read of Emily's before this was Something Blue, which I really liked.
This book struck me in the heart, and gripped me so hard I couldn't put this book down. I was so angry at some points, I wanted to reach into the book and punch Nick in the face. Other times, I just sobbed. [This month was a month of hysterical laughs and lots of tears in the books I read]. I felt very satisfied as I read the last page and closed the book though.
Emily writes in a way that you feel like you identify with both sides of the story, which is sometimes tough and conflicting. I think I'm going to have to read more of her books too.
Have you read any good books this month? I'd love to hear them!
