Reconnecting

There's nothing quite like the instant friendship that can form between military wives. Because of the stresses, challenges, deployments, training, pride, patriotism, and the countless other aspects of being a military wife, women bond quick and become more like family than friends.

This happened between me and what I call my "Marine Girls." The girlfriends, fiancees and wives of the men Matt served with became my fast friends and while living in Hawaii, they truly were part of my family. When we left the island in September 2009, we not only left the Marine Corps behind, and left the beauty of Oahu, we left our family.

Thank goodness for modern social media; it's allowed me to keep up with the lives of my girls. Life is busy for all of us and it is easy to fall out of touch. Especially when life has taken us to all different places, and circumstances. We don't all have that common bond of the Marine Corps life anymore.

On March 1st, I was able to reunite with one of my girls after more than two years. A native Texan, she decided to visit Minnesota. In the winter. :) Her coworkers asked her if she was crazy. I know you're thinking the same thing.

We had a great weekend full of talks, shopping, going out to dinner, walking on frozen lakes, watching Matt take the polar bear plunge [another blog post coming on that!] and relaxing. It was so amazing to reconnect after two years and to catch up on what is going on in our lives. We are in very different places than we were three years ago while living on Oahu, but the bond that connected us then has created a lasting friendship between us. I am so thankful for the Marine Corps for that.

Laura - thank you so much for taking the trip up to see us. Next time, we'll be visiting you!
P.S. Uffda, hodge podge, pop and lots of hot dish. :)

  1. Aww dear friend, I absolutely love this. I'm truly blessed to have been able to meet such wonderful girls during the military life. We were family...and all we had at that time. It was awesome to be able to reunite again. We had such a great time. Can't wait to do it again.

    Love you!
