Vacation and a Half Ironman

I've written a bit about how my husband Matt has gotten into triathlons this past year. I wrote about his first triathlon in August of 2010 here, and then chronicled two of his races this year here and here. He 'caught the triathlon bug' big time last August and has been working hard ever since.

He signed up for 4 sprint distance races this summer and after the first 1 or 2, he decided that he wanted to up the ante. He wanted a bigger challenge. So, he switched his last sprint race of the year to a race the distance of a half ironman.

On Sunday, he will be swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles and running 13.1 miles. In a row.

Yeah, I know.

He anticipates it taking around 5 1/2 hours or so. I KNOW.

We are heading down to Stillwater, MN to spend a few days in the quaint town we've heard so much about. We are also going down there a few days before the race so that Matt can familiarize himself with the course, and ride the bike route. Our families are coming in on Saturday and come Sunday, we'll have a big ol' cheer squad ready to cheer him on!

I'm so impressed with how he's done so far this season, and I'm in awe that he even signed up for this long of a race. The extent of my summer exercise is shooting an all day wedding [which is tiring in its own right, Matt will even vouch for that!] and going on fun bike rides at a leisurely pace. I don't quite know how he does what he does.

You can bet that a recap will follow the weekend, as well as probable posts with some photos of our time in Stillwater.

Prayers for Matt [and me] on Sunday morning would be greatly appreciated! I have a feeling I'm going to be a nervous wreck! :)
