Snow and Ice

The last 2 days of 2010 were an interesting weather combo for us here in Minnesota. We had serious rain for a whole day. Yes, rain. Like the kind that comes with spring or a dreary fall day. The cold, chilling kind of rain that the wind blows sideways. When that comes in winter time, we know it's just a matter of time before the temperatures drop below the freezing point and that rain will turn to snow. And the water that's on the ground already, that becomes ice.

The water turned to ice and the rain turned to snow, leaving us with one heck of a mess outside. It's been 2 weeks since the storm and the roads are still a wreck. The ice hasn't melted and the roads are almost as slick as they were the day after the storm. My slow 20mph winter driving makes it doable but not fun by any means.

However.

The weather might be bad for driving but it sure is pretty. The ice covered everything, and then we got snow after that. So the snow sticks to the ice and stays around. 2 weeks later, there is still snow in the trees and on the branches of the bushes around town. It is a winter wonderland over here!

  1. Even through nature's fury and everything it throws at us, the beauty you have captured through your lens is worth it.
