The Crow Wing County Fair

This summer has been an absolute whirlwind of activity.

I am not complaining - it's been the biggest blessing of a summer yet.

It has, however, made it not really feel like summer, because I haven't been able to spend it quite like my past Minnesota summers have been. I have only been to the beach twice, and I've been out on the boat - ZERO TIMES. Sad, I know. But it's been a sacrifice that I've been willing to make to have the most amazing time -photographically speaking - that I've ever had.

This Tuesday, I did get to partake in a summer necessity. Something that Matt and I missed out on last summer when we were living in Hawaii.

We went to the Crow Wing County Fair.

It was everything I remembered it to me - hot, smelling like a mix of deep fryers and livestock, holding plenty of industrial buildings with Free Stuff inside, and proving to be the greatest people watching place ever. Oh yeah, and of course, there was Fair Food too.

We walked through every building and put free pencils, notepads and candy into our bags. We ate Monster Ears [which in my haste to eat, I forgot to take a before picture, but I got an After picture!], Corn Dogs, Cheese Curds and Lemonade. The only thing I missed out on, because I was so full and had a stomach ache by the end, was the Cotton Candy...

Good thing I'm going again tomorrow! Eeeee!!

I really love the Fair.

The significance of this next photo is how we know were not in Hawaii anymore. Hawaii = SHAVE ICE. Minnesota = SHAVED ICE.

  3. Great pictures, Laura! Okay -- what WERE the "Monster Ears"? I was just watching KARE 11 morning show and they had a "Fair Food" segment with someone from Famous Daves! They're bringing Chocolate Covered Bacon back this year but also introducing "Fried Pigs Ears". State Fair food keeps getting weirder!!

  4. Hi Patti! Monster ears are basically a big flat pastry [thin, light and donut like kinda] that is coated in cinnamon and sugar! They look like an Elephant ear, which is the other known name for them!!
