This family is staying in one of the cabins at the resort this week - their annual family vacation spot. They asked me to do a combo shoot: 1 year old photos of baby J and then fit in some family photos of everyone together, and of the 3 families that make up the group. We did just that in the beautifully not-to-hot August morning.
The two brothers, D & B are so awesome. I was doubled over in stitches, while doing their headshots. I was trying to prompt them [7 yrs old and 4 yrs old] to give me a serious face, but to not look like they were mad. To kind of smile but not really. [I know, seriously? Laura - you need to think of a better prompt because this is clearly too confusing, even for an adult haha!] What I got were scrunched faces and future GQ poses.
In between the simple and beautiful family portraits, the session was full of sweet moments that happened without instruction. I'm just lucky I was paying attention to be able to catch them. Little J absolutely adoring his Grandma, and Grandma having to hide while we tried to get J and his parents in a photo together. Every time J saw Grandma, he'd start bawling. The photo of Grandma rocking him is something I am positive he'll cherish when he's older. [Maybe after he gets over the stage of being embarrassed by things like that. :)] Little J had some of the funniest faces ever, and he stuck his entire foot into his mouth at one point. Loved that one!
4 yr old B headed for the cabin as soon as I said he was done. We didn't see much of him after that. But big brother D headed to the dock where he remained for the rest of the time. The only time he left his post was when he came over to show us his catch. I couldn't get enough of him, sitting on his tackle box, with the company of either Grandpa or his Dad. It was perfect.
Ok, enough of my written commentary of the day. See, I told you this session was different. Maybe it was because I was caught up with my other sessions when this one came around, or maybe it was the break from the relentless heat and humidity we've had the past month. I'm not sure, but I do know that this family and this shoot has a special place in my heart and my memory. Alms family, thank you for letting me into your vacation for the morning to run around the resort with you. You are a beautiful family. Enjoy.
xoxo,
L
Love the wrinkling nose, closeups of the boys and the biting of the toes! Great work my friend!
